It's a big night for moms at the 2024 Oscars, including a very famous one.
While helping accept the Oscar for best animated short film on Sunday, Sean Ono Lennon, son of Yoko Ono and the late John Lennon, gave a shout-out to his mother. Lennon produced the animated short film "War Is Over!," which was inspired by his parents' music. The short, which is set in an alternate World War I, features Lennon and Ono's 1971 single "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)."
"My mother turned 91 this February, and today is Mother's Day in the U.K.," Lennon said in his speech. "So could everyone please say, 'Happy Mother's Day, Yoko!"
Lennon thanked the audience after they obliged his request and joined him in wishing Ono a happy Mother's Day.
Dave Mullins, who directed the short, thanked his parents, as well as Ono and John Lennon, in his acceptance speech while highlighting the eponymous song.
"John Lennon and Yoko Ono wrote a song that inspired us," Mullins said. "It is an anti-war message that we tried to honor with this film."
This continued a mom-heavy night after Bradley Cooper's mother, with whom the Oscar-nominated actor attended the ceremony, was the subject of a joke in host Jimmy Kimmel's monologue. The "Maestro" star previously brought his mom as a guest to the Golden Globes and other awards ceremonies.
"Bradley brings his mother to every award show, right?" Kimmel said. "It's very sweet, but I guess the question is how many times can one bring his mom as his date before he is actually dating his mom. Are you working on a movie about Freud right now and not telling us?"
"Barbie" star Ryan Gosling, meanwhile, attended the Oscars with his mom, Donna Gosling, and sister, Mandi Gosling.
