The New York Yankees have a three-game lead with 12 to play. And with every passing day, it looks likelier they'll finish the season atop the American League East.
While they've failed to take full advantage of the offensively struggling team in their rear-view mirror, the Yankees have done just enough to maintain breathing room in the American League East - and yes, so much of it is due to Aaron Judge.
Judge broke a 16-game homerless streak in authoritative fashion, hitting a game-changing grand slam Friday, and another long ball Sunday to essentially lift New York to a series victory over the Boston Red Sox. The wins preserved the Yankees' breathing room against the struggling Baltimore Orioles - and also nudged them to No. 2 in USA TODAY Sports' power rankings
